Due to the current situation worldwide caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, travel has been banned until further notice. However, travel restrictions are just a physical obstacle, as nothing is stopping us from going abroad with our senses… That is why we at Reverence Hotels have come up with an idea that will certainly bring us closer during these difficult times.

Normally, Reverence Hotels would be welcoming guests at this time of the year, giving the best of us to offer the best experience ever.

We are working hard to ensure that everything is perfectly ready for the day when the situation stabilises and we can gradually get back to normal. Since you cannot come visit us due to the current circumstances we are dealing with, we would like to bring one of the most traditional and easiest Easter delicacies from Majorca into your kitchen: crespells.

Crespells are rustic biscuits that are made from dough left over from other regional pastries typical of this time of the year: robiols. Crespells are very easy to make even children can participate so you can turn cooking into a great family activity.

Ingredients (18 units):

500g pastry flower (or plain flower)
60g caster sugar
Egg yolk
Extra virgin olive oil (1 cup of coffee)
Orange juice (1 cup of coffee)
Water (3/4 cup of coffee)
100g lard at room temperature
1/2 lemon peel

Method:

Step 1: Mix the lard and olive oil until a paste is formed and you obtain a silky texture.

Step 2: Add the rest of ingredients (except for the flour) and bring it all together until you have a uniform dough.

Step 3: Add the flour at once and pat and push the dough together until you have a nice ball. Cover in clingfilm and leave to rest in the fridge for half an hour.

Step 4: Take it out of the fridge, roll out the dough making sure that it is thick enough and cut out the shapes (the most traditional shapes include: heart, petal flower, star…).

Step 5 (last step): Preheat the oven at 180º and bake for about 20 minutes until golden.
