Our 3 favorite cultural proposals in Mallorca

August 21 2023
Culture and Gastronomy

These are 3 of the cultural proposals in Mallorca that we at Reverence Hotels like the most. What's more, all three are in Palma, just a short distance from our hotels in Palmanova, Reverence Mare and Santa Ponsa, Reverence Life.

A tour of art galleries

Mallorca is an island that has always had a very special relationship with culture, and specifically with art. Numerous artists have chosen to make it their home, or to spend long periods of time here to work. As a result of all this, today Palma is one of the Spanish cities with the most contemporary art galleries per inhabitant, and it has a circuit that always offers exhibitions by renowned local, national and international artists.

Palma, without going any further, is home to the gallery with the longest history in Spain -Pelaires, founded in 1969-, and its streets host the annual Nit de
l'Art
(this year on 23rd September), an event that brings together more than 25,000 people visiting the city's galleries and museums.

At Reverence Hotels we really enjoy art, and this has led us to recently establish a collaboration with the gallery Kaplan Projects, sponsoring the exhibition "Isoropía" by the artist Alexa Grande. You can see images in this link.

Visiting La Lonja

A must on any stroll through the centre of Palma. It is next to the seat of the Government of the Balearic Islands, next to the Paseo Marítimo, and is undoubtedly one of the city's great architectural jewels.

La Lonja de Palma is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and an important symbol of the city. Its construction began in the 15th century, specifically in 1420, and was completed in 1452. It was designed by the Mallorcan architect Guillem Sagrera and was mainly used as a market for trading local products and also as a meeting place for the merchants and traders of the time.

The building has characteristic elements such as pointed arches, elegant columns with helicoidal ornamentation enveloping them and different ornamental details. It consists of three naves and has a main hall called the "Sala de Contratación", which is a large and majestic space where commercial transactions were carried out.

Undoubtedly, one of the most outstanding elements of La Lonja is its façade, which is adorned with sculptures and intricate architectural details that reflect the wealth and economic power of the era in which it was built.

Visiting the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation

Whether you are an art lover or not, visiting the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation is a highly recommended experience. It is located in Palma (Calle de Saridakis, 29, 07015), and opening hours may vary, so it is advisable to check the current opening times on the official website.

The Foundation houses an impressive collection of works by Joan Miró, including paintings, sculptures, engravings and other types of art. He lived and worked there for more than 30 years, and today you can see his original studio and workshop almost exactly as the artist left them. This offers a unique insight into his creative process and working environment. During your visit you can explore the different rooms of the Foundation, enjoy the works of art and learn more about Joan Miró's life and legacy. The peaceful atmosphere and Mediterranean setting make for a unique experience.
