Culture and Gastronomy
There are many reasons to come and enjoy Mallorca.

The best known are the sun, its paradisiacal beaches, the sea and its crystal-clear waters, the beautiful landscapes, the calm... But there is one that is gaining more and more ground among those who choose this magnificent island to enjoy their holidays, and that is gastronomy. It is undoubtedly the tastiest way of getting to know the culture and history of any place.

Mallorcan gastronomy is characterised by a fusion of Mediterranean flavours based on the use of fresh, local ingredients. For example, Mallorca uses extra virgin olive oil, fresh fish, seafood, vegetables, aromatic herbs and citrus fruits, among other delicacies. In fact, there is an increasing amount of artisanal production of extra virgin olive oil on the island.

Likewise, given its location in the Mediterranean and its island character, Mallorca offers a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood. Dishes such as "caldereta de langosta" (lobster stew) are very popular, although lamb and pork are also common in the local cuisine. One of the best known is "tumbet", a traditional dish combining aubergines, peppers, potatoes and meat or fish - a delicacy!

Bread is an important element in Mallorcan food, which is usually accompanied by sobrasada, a creamy sausage made with pork, paprika and spices, and other local sausages, such as camaiot. One of the most popular dishes in the local gastronomy is the so-called "pa amb oli", consisting of slices of peasant bread with rubbed tomato, accompanied by sausages and cheeses produced on the island, not forgetting the local olives. The use of fresh herbs such as thyme, rosemary and basil is common on the island, adding characteristic aromas and flavours to the dishes.

And when it comes to sweets, the star is undoubtedly the ensaimada. A type of spiral-shaped, very spongy pastry, made with sweetened dough, fermented and baked by hand, made with flour, water, sugar, eggs, sourdough and lard, of which Ferrán Adriá himself said that "there is no other product like it in the world".

As you can see, these are just some of the delicacies that await you in Mallorca, although there are many others to discover, because as far as gastronomy is concerned, it is unparalleled!
