In 2025, the current Ponent Islands Marine Reserve of Mallorca, El Toro, Les Malgrats and El Sec was established, redefining the geographical boundaries and dimensions of the reserve declared in 2022.
This process has helped highlight an area of great importance for conservation, scientific research and environmental education. It also reminds us of the importance of enjoying the Mediterranean responsibly, especially in areas of high ecological value.
Technology bringing the seabed closer to everyone
The camera is located next to the islet of El Toro and provides live images of the seabed 24 hours a day. The live feed can be viewed through the underwater observatory on the Calvià Town Hall website and is also displayed on the 23 information totems distributed throughout the municipality.
The viewer also allows users to capture high-quality photographs, enabling anyone to save a specific moment beneath the surface: a shoal of fish passing by, changing light conditions or the movement of the currents across the seabed.
This initiative has been made possible through the collaboration between Calvià Town Hall and IB3, with the participation of the Marilles Foundation and IB-RED, as part of the Arxipèlag Blau outreach programme.
